For some essential dates, periods of time and names in the history of this artistic education institution, here is a useful list:
- 1752: first mention of a “theatre”, in the Timișoara City Hall documents;
- 1847: references to a “School of Drawing” in the press;
- 1858: local newspaper Temeswer Zeitung reports on the reopening of a “School of Singing”;
- the first half of the 20th century: the “Municipal School of Music” is cited (1907), later known as the Municipal Conservatory (1922), the Superior Conservatory (1945), the Institute of Art (1947);
- the communist years: with the ideologization of education, “Popular School of Arts” are founded, to serve communist propaganda, while arts themselves were censored;
- 1962: the Timișoara Popular School of Arts is established under Professor Ion Deatcu;
After the Revolution of 1989, the Timișoara School of Arts continued on its mission, to help those desirous attain the skills required for an artistic career, guided by such great figures in pedagogy as the late Pavel Roșu, Dumitru Pălălău, Iosif Hellman, Iacob Ochsenfeld, and Onuț Danciu.
